Is a head spa near Pasadena worth the drive to Arcadia?

Yes, if you book one of the 90 minute packages. O2 Head & Beauty Spa is at 1432 S Baldwin Ave in Arcadia, east of Pasadena, and choosing a head spa near Pasadena rather than in it means adding a drive each way. A 90 minute session gives that drive something to pay for: the whole scalp treatment, more massage, and in Package A a back, arm and leg massage with hot stone therapy.

Pasadena has well-reviewed head spas of its own, and if a scalp treatment is all you want, one of those may be the easier booking. What O2 offers for the extra miles is specific: a head spa package that includes a body massage, opening hours of 10 AM to 8 PM on every day of the week, and a member rate on every session.

If you have an hour or less, or want a head spa you can walk to from home or work, stay in Pasadena. The round trip adds roughly 30 to 40 minutes to any booking here, and that time sits more comfortably on top of a 90 minute session than a 60 minute one.

What happens in the 90 minute Package A?

Package A · Luxury Scalp Treatment & Back Massage keeps everything in the 75 minute Package C and adds a back, arms, legs, neck, shoulder and head massage with hot stone therapy. The menu builds each package on the one below it, so the full list comes in three layers.

The booking page lists what is included, not the order it happens in. The scalp analysis is the one step with a fixed place, at the start and again at the end, so the two can be compared.

What the body massage adds

Packages D, C and B keep the massage to the head, neck, shoulders, arms and hands. Package A is the only head spa package on the menu that reaches the back and legs, and the only one with hot stones, which is what you are paying the difference for if your stiffness sits below the shoulder blades.

If you want more time on one part

The menu does not say how the 90 minutes divide between the basin and the massage. If you would like longer on your back, or longer on your scalp, say so when you book and again when the session starts. The same goes for pressure: ask for it lighter or firmer as you go, and point out anywhere you would rather the therapist avoid, such as a fresh bruise or a sore knee.

  • From Package D: pre and post scalp analysis comparison, aromatherapy oil massage, a head, neck, shoulder and arms massage, deep scalp cleansing, waterfall hydrotherapy and meridian therapy, nano steam therapy, scalp serum spray, and high frequency ozone comb therapy.
  • Added in Package C: hair growth / strengthening nourishment, a hand, arms, neck, shoulder and head massage, phototherapy meridian comb treatment, and high frequency ozone comb therapy.
  • Added in Package A: a back, arms, legs, neck, shoulder and head massage, and hot stone therapy.

Package A or Package B: which 90 minutes should you book?

Book Package A if your back is where the tension sits, and Package B if it stops at the neck and shoulders or you would like a mini facial. Both run 90 minutes and both include the full Package C scalp treatment. Package B adds a hand, arms, neck, shoulder and head massage and one add-on you choose: a mini facial, a hand treatment or a neck treatment.

Package A costs $80 more at the regular rate and $40 more at the member rate. That buys the back and leg massage and the hot stones, while Package B gives the upper body more attention and adds its treatment.

On the evidence, neck and shoulder massage has the clearer result. In a 2013 review of 12 studies with 757 participants, summarized by NCCIH, massage helped neck and shoulder pain more than inactive treatments did. The review looked at people with pain rather than spa guests, but it is a fair reason to pick Package B when your shoulders are the complaint.

The menu names the three add-ons but does not describe each one, so ask the front desk what they involve when you book. As a starting point, the neck treatment keeps the focus where Package B already puts it, the mini facial suits a visit where you want your skin looked after as well as your scalp, and the hand treatment suits hands that spend the day on a keyboard.

Is 90 minutes worth it over 75?

From Pasadena, usually yes: the drive is the same for either length, and the extra 15 minutes go to massage. Package C at 75 minutes already holds the whole scalp treatment, including the hair growth / strengthening nourishment and the phototherapy meridian comb, so moving up to 90 adds massage and, in Package B, an add-on treatment rather than more scalp steps.

There is a hint in the research that time on the muscles counts. In a trial of 228 people with chronic neck pain, summarized by NCCIH, 60 minute massages given several times a week did better than fewer or shorter sessions. It tested a 4 week course for neck pain rather than a single spa visit, so read it as a reason to give the massage enough time, not as a promise of results.

Package C is the better fit when the hair nourishment is the part you came for, when your back and shoulders feel fine, or when a 75 minute slot is the only one open on the day you can make the drive. It costs less than either 90 minute package and keeps every scalp step.

What does a head spa near Pasadena cost at O2?

Package A is $276 at the regular rate and $138 at the member rate. Every head spa package carries both prices on the booking page, and on all four the member rate is half the regular one, so the saving is largest on Package A.

The booking page does not explain how membership is sold, what it costs or how long it lasts. Ask the front desk how membership works before you count on the lower rate; if you expect to make the drive from Pasadena more than once, it is the first question worth asking.

To try the format before committing to 90 minutes, the 60 minute Package D is the lowest price on the head spa menu and still covers the scalp analysis, deep cleansing, waterfall hydrotherapy and nano steam. Our guide to what a head spa is and what each step does covers the basics before a first visit.

Plan your visit from Pasadena

Allow about 15 to 20 minutes from central Pasadena, longer at rush hour. The spa is at 1432 S Baldwin Ave, Arcadia, CA 91007, on Baldwin Avenue between Duarte Road and Camino Real Avenue, and it is open every day from 10 AM to 8 PM. Book online or call (626) 857-6608.

By the 210

Take I-210 east to the Baldwin Avenue exit in Arcadia and drive south on Baldwin for about 2 miles. You pass Westfield Santa Anita, then the Arcadia Hub center with Vons at Duarte Road; the spa is about 0.2 miles past Duarte.

By Huntington Drive

From the southern side of Pasadena, Huntington Drive runs east through San Marino toward Arcadia without the freeway. Turn south onto Baldwin Avenue, and the spa is about 0.8 miles below Huntington.

By Metro

The Metro A Line runs east from Pasadena to Arcadia Station at 201 N First Ave. From there the spa is about 2.4 miles by road, so plan on a short rideshare or bus ride for the last stretch, and check Metro's timetable for the trip home.

Leave some margin

We cannot tell you when traffic on the 210 runs lighter, so build extra time into the drive rather than leaving on the minute. A 90 minute session needs an earlier start than a 60 minute one before the 8 PM close, and the booking page shows which times are still open.

What is close by if you make an afternoon of it?

Three places sit within about a mile and a half of the spa, all to the north: Westfield Santa Anita about 0.9 miles away, Santa Anita Park about 1.2 miles, and the LA County Arboretum about 1.4 miles. Each is a short drive back up Baldwin Avenue or along Huntington Drive.

Check their own hours, and the racing calendar at Santa Anita, before you plan around them. If you want to walk the Arboretum, go before the appointment: after 90 minutes on the table, a slow drive home may appeal more than a long walk.

Questions people ask

How long does it take to drive from Pasadena to O2 Head & Beauty Spa?

About 15 to 20 minutes from central Pasadena, longer at rush hour. Take I-210 east to the Baldwin Avenue exit and drive south about 2 miles to 1432 S Baldwin Ave in Arcadia. From the south side of Pasadena, Huntington Drive is the route without the freeway.

Is there a head spa near Pasadena with a back massage?

Package A at O2 in Arcadia combines the full scalp treatment with a back, arms, legs, neck, shoulder and head massage and hot stone therapy. It runs 90 minutes and costs $276 at the regular rate or $138 at the member rate.

What is the difference between Package A and Package B?

Both are 90 minutes and both include the full Package C scalp treatment. Package B adds an upper-body massage and one add-on (a mini facial, hand treatment or neck treatment) for $196 regular or $98 member. Package A adds a back and leg massage with hot stone therapy instead.

Is O2 open on weekends?

Yes. The spa is open every day from 10 AM to 8 PM, Saturday and Sunday included, which helps if a 90 minute session only fits into a weekend. Book online or call (626) 857-6608.

Should I try a shorter head spa before booking 90 minutes?
